Student Chapter UpdatesMay 2020Pacific University by Jason Nguyen COVID-19 has created an unprecedented challenge that has never been seen before. Many events were cancelled due to social distancing rule in place. However, that did not prevent us from carrying out our biggest event of the year zoom-ingly, Residency Night. Prof. Kris Marcus presented a residency introduction to the first-year students and Dr. Sara Jane Faro discussed residency preparedness to the second-year students. Afterwards, it was followed with multiple Q&A sessions with alumni, residents, and pharmacists. The SSHP executive team worked hard to adapt the format to zoom while ensuring our guests would be available and able to accommodate the changes. As a result, over 40 students (P1 + P2) participated with 10 pharmacists acting as either presenters or panelists. Despite the craziness, we are staying positive for all the exciting things that will happen this upcoming year. Oregon State University by Erin Wu On Saturday, February 29th, 2020, more than thirty P1 to P4 students between the OSU and OHSU campuses came together to participate in a leadership workshop led by various pharmacy leaders. Local presenters included: Kristy Butler, Manager of Primary Care Clinical Pharmacy Services for Providence Medical Group; Long D. Trinh, Interim Regional Executive Director, Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Oregon Providence Health & Services; and Tara Berkson, Regional Director for Clinical Pharmacy Services for Credena Health Specialty and Community Pharmacies. Additionally, David Chen, Assistant Vice President for Pharmacy Leadership and Planning for ASHP, was gracious enough to fly in from ASHP headquarters in Maryland to help present and facilitate the workshop for our students. OSU College of Pharmacy faculty leaders Myrna Munar and Deanna Moretz also helped facilitate the event. Students had a unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills through the presentation and case discussions led by these outstanding pharmacy leaders. This event would not have been possible without the efforts of our presenters, OSHP student chapter leaders (Alexi Ismail ‘22, Thu Mi Do ‘21, and Erin Wu ‘21), and faculty leadership. Thank you all for your contributions! |
