Oregon Pharmacy Coalition

 Oregon Pharmacy Coalition

One voice for pharmacy and the patients we serve, advocating public health policy to ensure the best use of medications.

Background

The Oregon Pharmacy Coalition was created through collaboration of the Statewide Pharmacy Coalition, the Oregon State Pharmacy Association, and the Oregon Society of Health-System Pharmacists.  Government Affairs Services and orchestration of lobbying efforts are provided by W.V. Cross Enterprises, Inc.  OSPA and OSHP leadership (via its Joint Legislative Committee) assists W.V. Cross Enterprises to jointly develop the agenda and consolidate discussion points for the Oregon Pharmacy Coalition.  Each organization supports the advocacy efforts of W.V. Cross Enterprises and the Coalition as the primary political action vehicle for Oregon’s pharmacists.

Goals

  • Improve the health and safety of patients served by pharmacists of Oregon.
  • Advance the practice of pharmacy through innovation and collaboration.
  • Provide guidance to the Oregon Pharmacy Political Action Committee (PAC) Directors and Governmental Affairs Advocate (Lobbyist) for OSPA and OSHP.
  • Develop a unified voice for the profession of pharmacy in Oregon and jointly develop a unified legislative agenda to support our goals.

Representation:  Pharmacists from all practice settings, with pharmacy technicians, educators, students, and others committed to improving patient care.

Policy Advocacy:  The legislative agenda is coordinated by a Lobbyist who speaks for the Coalition and by OSPA and OSHP which fund the position.  OSPA and OSHP, on behalf of the Coalition, will advocate for policy positions supporting the Coalition’s mission and goals.

Political Action Committee (PAC):  Financial support to help elect legislators and statewide officials who advocate the policy goals of pharmacists is coordinated though a PAC (Oregon Pharmacists Fund).
